EMA at Kodai-ji Temple

Kodai-ji (高台寺) temple was established in 1606 by Nene (ねね, often known by the title "Kita no Mandokoro"), the widow of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (豊臣秀吉), a Samurai (侍)/politician of the Sengoku period (戦国時代) who is regarded as Japan's second "great unifier". Nene is very famous for her contribution in supporting the stormy life of her husband.

Hideyoshi, a child of a peasant, later became the ruler of Japan, was also famous for his fondness for women. However, Nene was always the love of his life until the end...

Romance was not a commonplace in the old days in Japan. Today, taking after Nene and Hideyoshi, Ema (絵馬, votive wooden plates) whose benefit is "fulfillment in love", are very popular at Kodai-ji. Please take a nice walk at the temple in YUMEYAKATA' Kimono (着物), and make a wish upon an Ema.
