Okusho Hohaisho, a Sub-shrine at Fushimi Inari Taisha

Akane Kibune

Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社), also known as Oinari-san (お稲荷さん), is one of the best places to visit for overseas travelers. The shrine is deeply worshiped by Japanese people ever since its foundation in 711 A.D., and many of YUMEYAKATA customers visit the shrine in our Kimono everyday.

Since my father run business in the Nishijin (西陣) district, he often took us with him to pay a visit to the shrine. It was our custom to go there to pray for our prosperity.

When you visit the shrine, first you make a wish at the Honden (本殿, main shrine), go through the famous vermilion "Senbon Torii (千本鳥居, a thousand Torii gates)", and then you'll reach Okusho Hohaisho (奥所奉拝所, one of the sub-shrines at Fushimi Inari Taisha). The altitude is high and the air around here is almost chilly.

Among many other famous spots in the shrine, such as Omokaruishi (おもかる石, the light or heavy stone) or the piles of fox faced Ema (絵馬, votive plate to write one's wishes on), I am sure that this sub-temple with Inari mountain at the background, will give you so much energy.
