Fresh Green Maple Leaves at Jingo-ji Temple

If you wish to enjoy a green maple leaves in Kyoto, Jingo-ji (神護寺) temple is the place to go. Due to its remote location from the city center, not many Kyoto residents visit this temple. However, it's still the best spot to spend a relaxing time viewing the fresh greenery of young maple leaves.

Jingo-ji, established in the Heian (平安) period, is also very famous for its treasure, "the portrait of MINAMOTO no Yoritomo (伝源頼朝像似絵)", which can be seen on school textbooks of Japanese history.

During the Jihoh Mushibarai (寺宝虫払, airing of temple's treasures for insect prevention) annually held from May 1st to 5th, the treasures are open to the public. It is a rare chance to see Japanese national treasures in a close distance.
