Commenced in 2005, the light-up event at the Arashiyama (嵐山) district, aka Arashiyama Hanatouro (嵐山花灯路), has become very popular as one of the winter events in Kyoto. Despite the cold night weather, the event attracts many visitors from all over Japan.
The fantastic lights reflected on temples, shrines and bamboo forests, brings you to a mystic night land away from the everyday life. The lanterns that shine your foot steps are also very entrancing. The highlight is the view of Togetsukyo (渡月橋) bridge glowing in golden color over the background of the purple-lighted mountain surface. In the crisp cold night air, I felt as if the time has stopped elapsing. The modern technology is now blooming on the land loved by noblemen in the Heian (平安) period.
*This year's Arashiyama Hanatouro has finished.
