Hana Chozu (Washing Water Basin Filled with Flowers) at Yanagidani Kannon

The weather is lovely these days here in Kyoto. Today, I would like to introduce you a very popular temple in Kyoto, especially among girls.

The temple is better known by its nickname "Yanagidani Kannon (楊谷観音)" than its official name "Yokokuji (楊谷寺)". It is located in a mountain area in the outskirt of Nagaokakyo (長岡京) city.

About 1200 years ago, a monk called Enchin (延鎮) found a Kannon (観音, statue of a goddes of mercy) at this land inspired by his own precognative dream and established a temple in order to enshrine it.

In the premises with rich nature, there is a spring called Okozui (独鈷水) famous for a benefit of healing eye disease. From the old times, Japanese people have been believing in mystic power of sacred fresh water.

One more huge attraction is Ryu no Chozuya (龍の手水舎, dragon shaped washing basin for purification) filled with seasonal flowers. It's like an art!

Having a quiet time at a temple is a nice way to spend an afternoon. It clears up your mind!
